The Posture Clinic can help you to:

A typical course at The Posture Clinic comprises of a series of 10 sessions, tailor-made to your individual needs, to bring poise and composure into your everyday life. Erica Donnison, Alexander Technique teacher, will work with you to achieve better posture, poise and confidence. Further sessions can be added for those wishing to take the Alexander Technique further and explore all it has to offer.

The Posture Clinic for runners and other sports
As a qualified Pose Running Coach, Erica can teach you how to run faster and with greater ease and poise than you ever thought possible. Improved posture can help you move more easily in sports such as running, cycling, swimming and horse riding.

The Posture Clinic in the workplace
Chronic back pain is one of the main reasons for people taking time off work. Erica can come into your workplace to teach people how to sit, stand or move around in ways that can help avoid back pain.

The psychological aspect of posture
Posture is linked to your emotional state and your confidence levels. At The Posture Clinic sessions can be combined with use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) personality questionnaire to look at the effects of your personality on your posture, and to improve your confidence.

What happens in a session?
A typical session at The Posture Clinic helps you notice the areas of tension in your body and teaches you how to gently let it go. This is achieved through explanation and hands-on demonstration, and results in improved posture by allowing your body to grow to its full height rather than being constricted and compressed by excess muscular tension.

Sessions include activities such as standing up and sitting down, walking, table work, and exploring practical day-to-day applications and activities to improve posture and release tension. For example, whether you sit at a computer all day, enjoy a spot of gardening, paint for fun or for a living, or play a musical instrument, sessions can be arranged to enable you to explore how you can type, plant, paint or play with greater freedom and less pain.

The Posture Clinic is available at the Kendal Physiotherapy Centre on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays including evenings. Visits to the home or workplace can be arranged at any time.

Erica Donnison MSTAT: Alexander Technique Teacher

Erica is a teaching member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT), a professional body which regulates Alexander Technique teachers, and is a member of the Society's Council. She graduated from the Fellside Alexander School in Kendal in 2004, having successfully completed a three-year full-time teacher training course.

She is also a fully qualified Pose Running Coach, having trained with Dr Romanov the originator of this style of forefoot running. She is unique in combining the teaching of the Alexander Technique and the Pose Running Method to improve peoples' posture when they are running.

She is also qualified to use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) personality questionnaire which she uses to explore the links between personality and posture.

Erica enjoys working with people who want to find out how to help themselves overcome pain or stiffness and improve their posture, to become truly poised and free.
