Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

About TCM Acupuncture

  • TCM Acupuncture is a safe, painless and relaxing treatment which aims to stimulate your body's own capacity to restore physical ease, health and vitality.
  • Using skills such as tongue and pulse diagnosis, TCM Acupuncture provides you with a detailed overall assessment of your health and teaches you how you can best support you own body.
  • The TCM Acupuncture model of medicine offers you a complete system of healthcare which complements Western Medicine and can support your journey back to health.

Why choose TCM Acupuncture?

Traditional Acupunture is the result of over two thousand years of critical thinking and extensive observation of the body in health and in illness. It is a system of healthcare which addresses the whole person as well as their symptoms. Acupuncture has begun to feature more prominently in mainstream healthcare in the UK and is complementary to Western Medicine. It can be used safely alongside mainstream treatments and medication. Many people choose Acupuncture to support themselves in their journey back to health.

For general health: TCM Acupuncture complements all other treatments at the Kendal Physiotherapy Centre by having the ability to address underlying health niggles, illnesses or stresses which may be compromising the efficiency of your body.

For low back pain: In May 2009, the National Institute for Clinical Evidence UK (NICE) produced guidelines for the care and early treatment of people with recurrent, non-specific low back pain. The guide recommends that people are offered one of the following treatment options:

  • Acupuncture
  • Manual Therapy
  • A Structured Exercise Programme

Barbara can provide the required NICE recommended course of acupuncture: a maximum of 10 sessions over a period of up to 12 weeks.

"One of the things I love to do is teach people how to look after themselves better. Chinese Medicine has been around for over two thousand years and provides us with a wealth of knowledge about how to stay healthy and prevent disease.... It really is a system of healthcare which still works and is relevant for us in the 21st Century."
